A world to explore

Step into the world of Thayathorn — a rich, imaginative setting designed for role-players, game masters, and creative writers who love to craft mature, collaborative stories. Originally developed as a setting for the Scimitar role-playing game, Thayathorn has evolved into a systemless game world, meaning it can now be explored through any game mechanics or storytelling engine you prefer.
At its heart, Thayathorn is a world rooted in history, culture, and mysticism. It isn’t just about battles and treasure hoards — it’s about politics and faith, survival and sacrifice, the ghosts of old empires and the dreams of new ones. The focus is on depth, nuance, and collaborative creativity. Whether you’re weaving your own campaign, building characters, or writing fiction, there’s space here for your imagination to breathe.
Widder Press exists to support that creativity. Some materials are free. Others are available at what we hope is a reasonable cost. We don’t believe storytelling should be locked behind a excessive costs — we’re here to share, not to gouge. In order to meet the low cost demands – you will not find high level full colour artwork or beautifully bound box sets. Just an emphasis on usable content that hopefully challenges the mind.
So take your time. Browse the lore, explore the cities, walk the deserts and alleys and battlefields of this world. Most of all, enjoy. You’re not just a visitor — you’re a fellow worldbuilder. Welcome.
Thayathorn Publications
Widder Press is just getting started — but there’s a lot more to come.
Right now, we’re in Phase One, which is all about catching up with our massive backlog of content. There’s a wealth of material — cities, cultures, scenarios, sourcebooks — and we’re gradually bringing it all into print. Some of it has been sitting in drawers for years; now it’s time to give it life and make it available to the wider community.
Our growing catalogue of publications can be found below. These include system-free campaign settings, story modules, and guides for both players and GMs. You can download them as PDF’s or you can buy them through our Print-on-Demand partners. Some are downloadable for free. Our goal is to make Thayathorn accessible to as many people as possible — not to break the bank.
We’re currently working on the Another World – a Companion to Thayathorn, a comprehensive guide to the setting that will be available as a free PDF — and at cost in physical format for those who prefer something to hold in their hands.
Watch this space — new releases are coming soon.

Community

Once we’ve cleared some of the backlog and built up the foundation, we move into Phase Two — and that’s where you come in.
The long-term vision for Thayathorn is collaborative. This world was never meant to be a closed box — it was made to be played with, expanded, reshaped, and reimagined. We’ll soon be launching a series of collaborative projects, where players, writers, artists and GMs can contribute to the world of Thayathorn. Whether that’s through joint scenario writing, worldbuilding challenges, or new region guides — we want to hear from you.
Want to write your own Thayathorn material? Brilliant. We actively encourage community content — whether it’s characters, story arcs, sourcebooks, system conversions, or worldbuilding tools. Check out our licensing terms, which are designed to support non-commercial creativity and offer clear options for commercial publishing. If you’ve got an idea, get in touch — we’re happy to talk.
We’re building more than just a game world. We’re building a creative community. One where everyone’s voice has a place.
